The Kraton Mangkunegara was built in 1757 by the Raden Mas Said, the nephew of the founder of the larger Kraton Surakarta, after a dispute.Most of the palace is open to guided tours, although part is closed to the public since the royal family still lives here.The palace is in good shape and contains a massive pavilion for dance performances, reception rooms, and a garden.There is also a museum with various royal items such as chastity belts and royal powders.
